My Classroom Philosophy
Dear Parents and Students,
ETK is such an important grade. For some, it is their first experience being away from their family and out in the real world. It is also an important grade because it is the very beginning of their educational life. And lastly, it is an important grade because sadly your baby is not a baby anymore (they always will be your baby in a sense, just not a baby baby).
We will be learning many things about social-emotional skills, reading, math, history, science, as well as participating in the Arts Program. In addition, in ETK we do a lot of learning through music and movement. We work on remembering songs and dances so that we can present to our school community.
As a teacher, I have very high academic standards and I will assist your child in achieving them. In addition, I have high expectations for the children in the areas of ethical and moral behavior and for a strong positive discipline in the classroom as well as when we are outside of our room environment.
In the classroom I encourage children to ask questions, seek answers to those questions, and develop an understanding of who they are and how they contribute to our community. It is my expectation that my students will develop intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my hope that each child develops to his/her full potential and that they become well rounded citizens of the communities they live in.
It is my belief that education is a partnership between the teacher, the student, and the parents. We all need to invest and be involved in your child’s education if we want your child, my student, to be successful. Because of this belief, I encourage you to participate and volunteer in my class as often and as much as you can/would like. You can do so by helping in the classroom, assisting on the yard, and / or taking things to do at home. In addition, I encourage you to feel free and teach us about any special traditions you may have. Learning is more interesting when students learn from others about their experiences first hand. It also makes your child proud of you, themselves, and their background. Children learn best when we include them, their families, their cultural background/knowledge, and their beliefs in the lessons being taught.
I am dedicated to my students and will be conscientious of their and your family’s needs. I look forward to working with you and your children and helping them build the foundations of a well rounded education.
Thank you for allowing me to teach your child this year! It will be a fantastic year of learning and a year full of fun!
Reach for the Stars!
